Thomas “Tom” E. Taylor
New Paris
Thomas “Tom” E. Taylor, 76, of New Paris, passed away Monday, June 8, 2015 at Altoona Hospital.
He was born on Dec. 14, 1938, in Ryot, the son of the late E. Ray Taylor Jr. and Sarah Grace Crissman.
On Sept. 18, 1958, he married Elizabeth A. “Dolly” (Riegel) Taylor.
He is survived by his wife Dolly of 56 years; children, Thomas E. Taylor Jr. and wife Jacqueline (Grinder), children, Alexis and Thomas of New Paris; son, William C. Taylor and wife Annette (Weaver), children, Sandi and Ryan of Bedford; son, Craig P. Taylor and wife Tammy (Burkett) and their son Preston of New Paris; son, Eric L. Taylor and wife Lincy (Clark), children, Austin, Shiloh, and Gracie; brother, Leighton Taylor of Manns Choice; sister, Judy Lucas and husband John of Windber.
Tom was a welding foreman at Bethlehem Steel Corp. of Johnstown for 30 years. During that span he also drove truck, commercial long haul, and tow truck, apple trucks, worked as a mechanic, lumber jack, Quarryman, and Apiarist. He mentored many local young men, now older gentlemen, as a local Fishertown Boy Scout Troop leader for more than 30 years.
He also was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and certified in scuba. His hobbies included farming, fishing, canoeing, and camping. He enjoyed his Akita dog, horses, and bee keeping. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 320, Bedford.
Friends and family will be received at the J. Edward Blackburn Funeral Home, Wednesday, June 10, 2015, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Daniel Oldham officiating, at the J. Edward Blackburn Funeral Home.
Interment will be at the Fishertown Cemetery.
