Steve B. Domonkos Sr. , of Alum Bank, passed away December 13, 2017 due to injuries sustained in a car accident.

He was born on February 12, 1952, in Windber, son of the late Andrew J. Domonkos Sr. and Margaret A. (Shaffer) Domonkos.

On Sept. 29, 1973, he married Karol E. (Rovansek) Domonkos.

He is preceded in death by his father Andrew J. Domonkos Sr., granddaughter Katelynn Wynn Domonkos, and nephews, Robert Maxwell, Chris Ziegler, and Urge Tressler.

He is survived by his wife Karol of 44 years; his son Steve B. Domonkos Jr. and fiancé Tina M. Masters; grandchildren, Kyllie Onkst; Dylan E. Mobley of N.C.; Keigan Blough-Domonkos; Kierstyn Blough-Domonkos & Izabella Domonkos; sisters, Sharon wife of Charles Maxwell of Imler; Shirley wife of David Lashinsky of Dillsburg; Virginia wife of Gene Lakin of N.C.; Mary Kay wife of Tom Osman of Alum Bank; Julia wife of Rick Russell of South Fork; and brother Andrew J. Domonkos Jr. married to Shirley of Florida; 18 nephews; 12 nieces; many great nephews and nieces, and 4 great-great nieces.

Steve worked 9 years for UPS Freight out of Cumberland, Md. He was a member of Local Union 453. He also worked 16 years as a coal miner, working for New Florence Mine #2 and Beth Energy Mine 78 in Windber. Right out of high school, he worked for Miller Block in Windber. He loved to hunt, be outdoors, his horses, and working with his beehives. He was a stubborn man at times but, he had a heart of gold and would give his last dollar to someone in need. He loved having “Pig Roasts” and having family and friends around. He was a member of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Osterburg.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, his son and fiancé, grandchildren, his family, and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 21, at 6 p.m. ; the family will be receiving friends from 4:30 until the hour of the service at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Osterburg with Pastor Michael Van Dyke officiating.

He is now “Running with the buffalo, dancing with the deer, and soaring with the eagles”.
