Shirley L. Sheirer
New Paris
Our mother, Shirley L. Sheirer, 81, entered into the kingdom of Heaven with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital.
She was born on July 29, 1935, at home in Osterburg, the daughter of the late James Ira and Gladys V. (Diehl) Moore.
On April 18, 1955, she married Donald E. Sheirer in Winchester, Va., who preceded her in death on February 11, 2016.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and granddaughter, Clarissa Dawn Sheirer, who passed away on June 7, 1987; brother, Tom Moore; and sister, Betty Shaffer; also several brother and sister-in-law’s; and several nephews, great nephews, nieces, and great nieces.
She is survived by two sons: Rodney S. husband of Michelle D. (McDonald) Sheirer of New Paris; Randall A. Sheirer of New Paris; two grandsons, Zachery P. Sheirer of New Paris; and Benjamin J. Sheirer of Osterburg; brothers, William of Fishertown; James “Bob” of New Paris; Jack of Port Royal; sisters, Nancy Barefoot of IN; Connie Harbaugh of Fishertown.
Shirley was a graduate of the first graduating class of the Chestnut Ridge Joint School District in 1953. She worked first at the Benjamin Franklin Store in Bedford, and then she was one of the opening employees at the Altoona First Savings Bank in Bedford. Later she worked at Livengood’s Store in Reynoldsdale, and after for Judy's market. She would also babysit her two grandsons, Zach and Ben. For many years she was the treasurer/secretary for the Chestnut Ridge Independent Fellowship Church where she was a charter member.
She liked to garden, both flowers and vegetables, also enjoyed canning and setting out front on the swing.
As we look back over her life, she was truly a child of God and spent her life raising her sons in Christian service. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and she will be greatly missed by all whom lives she touched.
Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, December 6, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Chestnut Ridge Independent Fellowship Church and from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Daniel Oldham officiating.
Interment will be at the Bedford County Memorial Park.
