Robert “Bob” Sipes, 85, of Alum Bank, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at home.
He was born on Nov. 24, 1931, in Somerset County, son of the late Norman and Iva (Lehman) Sipes.
On March 10, 1953, he married Opal M. Sipes, who preceded him in death on December 17, 2015.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Opal; brother, Bill Sipes; and sister, Alice McDannel.
Bob is survived by his children, Judy, widow of Jesse Finnegan of Osterburg; Jeffrey and wife Sandy Sipes of New Paris; Eric and wife Sonia Sipes of Schellsburg; 6 grandchildren, Jessica; Stephanie; Amy; Stacey; Tressa; and Torie; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Berkey and husband Ray of Osterburg; Shirley Miller of Osterburg; Bev Harr of Osterburg; Linda of Chambersburg; Susan Simon of Bedford; a special niece Leslie Ann Weyant; and sister-in-law JoAnn Smith.
Bob served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a carpenter and worked at General Refractories and Cannondale during his lifetime. He liked to ride motorcycles, feed the birds, watch Western’s on TV, and go to the Friday night auctions in Pleasantville. He enjoyed riding his Cub Cadet and Gator. Bob was a lifetime member of the Pleasantville VFW 9219. He also has a good neighbor Glenn Martin.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 8 p.m., with Pastor James Neatrour officiating at the J. Edward Blackburn Funeral Home.
Interment will be at the Upper Claar Cemetery.
