Richard (Dick) Day, 89, of Osterburg, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 with his family by his side.
He was born on September 8, 1928, in Howard , Pa; the second of nine children born to Charles and Charolette (Schenck) Day.
On May 20, 1954, he married Shirley Mae Welch, who preceded him in death on January 6, 1980.
He is survived by four children, Debbie Hammel(Tom) of New Enterprise; Linda Flowers (Jim) of Bedford; Jeff Day (Doris) of Senery Hill; Dotti Jo Fickes (Greg) of Bedford; Pap to seven grandchildren, Adrianne Bowman (Craig) of Roaring Spring; Rick Hammel of Loysburg; TK Hammel of Roaring Spring; Lacey Custer of Williamsburg; Melissa Martin (Ryan) of Scenery; April Ott (Travis) of Roaring Spring; Scott Day of Cannonsburg; also six great- grandchildren; 2 sisters, and 5 brothers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and one brother.
Richard was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Osterburg. He retired from Kennametal but was also known as the Jewel Tea Man. He enjoyed auctions, his family, and woodworking.
The family would like to thank the good neighbors of Osterburg, especially Bob, Sue, and Jen Way and also his church family. They would also like to thank the care givers from Southern Care Hospice, Denise Auker, Kylie Green, Lorraine, and Pastor Tim Guyer for all their compassion and care.
Friends and family will be received on Saturday, June 16 from 2 p.m. until the hour of the funeral service at 5 p.m. at the Trinity Reformed Church of Osterburg, with Rev. Charlie Miller officiating.
His children will lay him to rest at the Bedford County Memorial Park.
