Norma (Brightbill) Blackburn, 92, formerly of Alum Bank, passed away on July 11, 2016, with her loving family by her side.
She was born on Feb. 23, 1924, in Dutch Corner, daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Shaffer) Brightbill.
On Aug. 19, 1942, she married J. Edward Blackburn in Winchester, Va, he preceded her in death on July 21, 2000.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J. Edward; sisters, Edith Madore Bender, Vera Placido, Lois Sweigart, Dorothy Wonders; and infant grandson, John.
She is survived by daughter, Barbara and husband Paul Kolander of Bedford; daughter, Anita DiFabio of Bedford; son, Robert Blackburn of Alum Bank; seven grandchildren, Lisa Hocker and husband Steve, Heather Berkhous and husband Scott, Brian Kolander and wife Heather, Kamela Kolander, Kayla Blackburn, Samantha Hundley and husband Joe, Aubrey Blackburn; eight great-grandchildren, Olivia, Alyssa, Addison, Gabriella, Marley, Gavin, Reid, and Haley. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Norma was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be greatly missed. She was very influential in helping her husband, Edward in the funeral business. She was compassionate with the families at a very difficult time. She was a member of the Alum Bank United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star. She loved to quilt, and the Horne’s Ladies Aid group gathered at her home to quilt for many years. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Friends and family will be received Thursday, July 14, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the J. Edward Blackburn Funeral Home, with an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held Friday, July 15, 2016 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Kurt Knobel and Rev. Charles Jack officiating, at the J. Edward Blackburn Funeral Home.
Interment will be held at the Pleasantville Cemetery.
