Mary Joan (Way) Henderson, 90, formerly of Osterburg, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Bedford Skilled Nursing.

She was born on July 30, 1932 in Fishertown; daughter of the late Roy T. Sr. and Lillie (Miller) Way.

On August 13, 1950, she married Harold F. “Bud” Henderson, who preceded her in death on November 4, 2017.

Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Grace Claycomb; Olive Long; Ruth Callihan; Betty Whisel; Beatrice Meinhart; Laura Corle; brothers, John, Samuel, Clair, Roy T.”Pappy”, and Ivan. Mary was the last surviving member of her family.

Mary is survived by sons, Lynn and wife Judy (Grasser) Henderson; Tim and wife Amy (Slack) Henderson; 3 grandsons, Jeremy and wife Kathy (Crawford) Henderson; Adam and wife Becky (Pepple) Henderson; Josh and wife Amanda (Higgins) Henderson; 3 great-grandchildren, Alyssa Henderson; Jeremy Henderson Jr. ; Julia Ickes; Meah Henderson; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary was a 1950 graduate of Schellsburg Napier High School. She was of the Friends Quaker Faith. She loved going to sales, playing bingo, having yard sales and being with friends.

She was a great mentor, loved by us all and a friend to many. Special thanks to Jada Kagarise, Lori Diehl and all from Hospice, and to the staff of Bedford Skilled Nursing for all their help, and to Jean Manspeaker, who was like a daughter to her.

Friends and family will be received on Sunday, June 4th from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the J. Edward Blackburn Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 5th at 10 a.m. with Pastor John Bennett officiating at the J. Edward Blackburn Funeral Home.

Interment will be held at the Fishertown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital.
