Lavone (Bowser) Whisel, 98, of Fishertown, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at home.
She was born on May 27, 1927 in Cessna; daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Amick) Bowser.
On July 17, 1954, she married Walter “Ray” Whisel, he preceded her in death on February 21, 2008.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Leon Bowser; William Bowser; James Bowser; and Carol Dull.
Lavone is survived by her children, Debra (Jack) Shroyer of Hyndman; Steven Whisel of Fishertown; Lisa (Doug) Browell of Hopewell; 6 grandchildren, Ryan Whisel; Juli (Jason) McCoy; Bethany (Jeremy) Elliot; Rebecca (Scott) DeHaven; Courtney Lavone (Tyler) Rush; Heather Boor; 11 great-grandchildren, Essence, Danika, Audrey, Marley, McKinley, Jackson, Amelia, Brantley, Abigail, Thea Lavone, and Huck; great-great granddaughter, Presley due in June; brother, Gary Bowser of New Paris; and sister-in-law, Nancy Bowser of Newry; many nieces and nephews.
Lavone graduated from Schellsburg Napier in 1945. She was employed at G.C. Murphy in Bedford for 9 years. Her mother took her to Sloans Hollow Church when she was 4 months old and she has been a member ever since. She played the piano and organ at the church. She loves music and flowers. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
A special thank you to her caregivers, Sue, Jess, and Charlee. You will always be considered angels on earth in our eyes.
Friends and family will be received on Monday, April 27 at 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the J. Edward Blackburn Funeral Home. A private service will be held immediately following the viewing.
Interment will be at the Bedford County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Lavone to the Sloans Hollow Church, 1291 Sloans Hollow Road, Bedford, Pa 15522.
