John William Strawbridge, 80, of Pavia went to be with the Lord on January 14, 2022. He was born on January 19, 1941, in Lancaster, PA. Son of the late John L. and Blanch (Bleacher) Strawbridge.

 He is preceded in death by his sister Mary Ickes, brother-in-law Russell Ickes, and Ruth Ickes.

John was a graduate of Bedford High School playing on the football team. He went on to enlist in the US Army in January 1963 being deployed to Korea and serving his time in communications along the DMZ. While in the army, he was awarded the sharpshooter badge (Rifle M-1) and Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged in February 1966 going on to serve in the US Army Reserves for another 4 years. He retired from Blue Knob State Park in 1998. 

He is survived by his wife of 48 years by Nancy J (Stiffler) Strawbridge of Pavia; son Kevin Lingenfelter and wife Barbara Lingenfelter; grandson Adam Lingenfelter and wife Krystle Lingenfelter; grandson Brad Lingenfelter and wife Jennalynn Lingenfelter; great-grandson Bo William Lingenfelter and Elam John Lingenfelter; nephew Richard Ickes and his wife Chris Ickes; nephew Larry Ickes and Leslie Ickes; and Sharon Celishia.

John was an avid outdoorsman throughout his life learning to hunt and fish from Russell at a young age and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with his son Kevin and grandsons Adam and Brad. He was heavily involved with the reestablishment of the Pavia Sportsman Association serving as treasurer for many years and assisting with fund raising, stocking trout and stream cleanup as well as attending monthly meetings. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family often watching football on the weekends. In his younger years he never missed an opportunity to hit the dancefloor with Nancy and was often found travelling throughout Blue Knob State Park and the State Game Lands. 

Visitors will be received at the J. Edward Blackburn Funeral home at 4305 Quaker Valley Rd, Alum Bank, PA 15521 on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM with the funeral on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at the Mt. Zion Church of Pavia at 130 Pavia Rd, Imler, PA 16655 at 11 AM followed by a meal at the Pavia Community Building. 

Military Rites accorded by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Pavia Sportsmans Association. 110 Church Rd, Imler, PA 16655. 

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
