Manns Choice

Ida J. Swindell, 95, of Manns Choice went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Rebecca’s Personal Care Home in Everett.

She was born on September 10th, 1926 in Manns Choice; daughter of the late Calvin L. and Orpha (Diehl) Turner.

On September 19, 1970 she married Harold “Chick” Swindell in Winchester, VA; he preceded her in death on December 23, 1989.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, J. Robert Ferguson; her second husband, Harold; brother, Clyde (Jake); sister, Desi (Sissy); daughter, Karen Lokey; granddaughter, Pamela Swindell; and granddaughter, Robin Blackburn.

She is survived by her son, Robert C. Sr. and wife, C. Jean (Imler) Ferguson of Manns Choice; 5 grandchildren, Robert C. Jr. and wife Melissa Ferguson of Manns Choice; Lori (Ferguson) and husband Greg Yoder of Friedens; Travis and Shyrl Ferguson of Manns Choice; Wayne and wife Anita Wilkerson of New Mexico; Mike Wilkerson of North Carolina; 8 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Ida was a member of the United Church of Christ in Manns Choice. She worked at Shawnee Park, the Shoe Factory, Shawnee Inn, White Sulphur Springs, then retired from Hedstrom. She owned the Sunset Valley Campground since 1970. She enjoyed talking to the camp families, sewing, gardening, mowing, and cooking all the holiday meals and Sunday meals for her family, but most of all she loved her family, which included her dogs.

Friends and family with be received on Thursday, January 20th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the J. Edward Blackburn Funeral Home.

Burial with be at the Dry Ridge Cemetery.
