Gene M. Wentz

Gene M. Wentz, 91, went home to be with the Lord on May 8, 2016 at The Village at Morrisons Cove.
He was born on October 7, 1924, in Somerset, son of the late Myrel and Jenny (Young) Wentz.
On May 12, 1947, he married Thelma (Brown) Wentz.
He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Melba, Vernon, Delmar, Ivan, and infant sister Mildred.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma of 69 years; daughter, Joyce and husband Dan Felix of Mechanicsburg; son, Doug Wentz of Florida; Daughter, Sue and husband Jay Speicher of Bedford; 5 grandchildren, Shawn, Kirk, Chip, Melissa, and Robert; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Adilene Lohr of Bedford; Janet Davis of New Paris; and a special nephew Richard Brown.
Gene was a member of the Dunnings Creek Church of the Brethren. He attended the Curryville Church of the Brethren. He was a lifetime member of the Chestnut Ridge Lions and president twice. He was on the Chestnut Ridge school board, member of the ambulance and EMT, a lifetime Deacon, on the church board, Sunday school teacher, and in the Church choir. Gene was a WWII wounded Veteran; he retired from Bethlehem Steel after 38 years, as a crane operator. After retirement, he and his wife wintered in Palms Estates in Lorida, Florida. Gene was known for his love of music and being a good Christian man. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Friends and family will be received at the J. Edward Blackburn Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 froom 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 11 a.m. with a viewing from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service at the Dunnings Creek Church of the Brethren, with Pastor David Stiles and Pastor Robert Thacker officiating.
Interment will be at the Bedford County Memorial Park.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Day Corp. of Johnstown or Martinsburg Food Bank.
