Floyd Taylor Obituary

Floyd Arthur Taylor, 73, of Bedford, passed away on May 27,2024, at Colonial Courtyard, Bedford, PA, after a long bout with Parkinson's disease.

He was born on July 22,1950, at his grandmother's house in Alum Bank, the son of Arthur Taylor and Mabel Bowser Taylor Helbig.

He was preceded in death by his parents and foster parents, Norman and Wilma Davis and stepbrother Myron Helbig.

He is survived by sons Joseph, Kenneth and daughter Teresa; grandchildren, Willow and Connor; foster sister Phyllis Davis Shadle, wife of A. Thomas Shadle; and foster brother Wayne A. Davis, husband of Parletta B. Davis; stepbrother Galen Helbig and stepsister, Roxene Pugh. Also survived by aunts Lucy Long and Blanche Smith and uncle Raymond Bowser. He had many nephews and nieces.

Floyd was a 1968 graduate of Chestnut Ridge high school and a 1972 graduate of Messiah College. In high school Floyd was in the band and chorus and also played with the New Paris Community Band.

Floyd was a member of the Mt. Union United Methodist Church in Lovely. Floyd was a career truck driver. He pursued the vocation he always wanted. He retired from Roadway Trucking Company in 2016 after 42 years of service. He always had a passion for music and for radios whether it be CB, AM, FM, or shortwave. His favorite music was doo wop and he had a huge collection of doo wop music which he listened to most of the time.

His children have fond memories of their dad's singing ability. He Will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Correction: Friends and family will be received on Sunday June 2, at 2 p.m. until the hour of the funeral service at 3 p.m., with Pastor James Neatrour officiating at the J. Edward Blackburn Funeral Home, 4305 Quaker Valley Rd Alum Bank, Pa 15521. 

Graveside service to follow at the Mt. Union Church of Lovely Cemetery, 2182 Spruce Hollow Rd Alum Bank, Pa 15521. Meal will follow at the St. Paul's UCC, 1338 S. Imler Valley Rd Imler, Pa 16655.
