Erma Ruth Ling
Osterburg
Erma Ruth Ling, 98, of Osterburg, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Pennknoll Village.
She was born on May 30, 1918, in Pavia, daughter of the late W. Ross and Mazie E. (Weyant) Burkett.
On Oct. 21, 1942, she married Clinton McClellan Ling in Osterburg, he preceded her in death in 1977.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clinton; brother, David Merle Burkett, who was killed in active duty during WWII; brother, Earnest and wife Marion (Shephard) Burkett; nephew, Jerry Burkett and niece Barbara Burkett.
She is survived by her children, Ella I. Imler and late husband Kenneth E. Imler of Osterburg; Gerald D. Ling and wife Martha (Heslop) Ling of New Paris; 5 grandchildren, James A. Imler of Osterburg; John C. Imler of Osterburg; Tricia R. Imler and companion David Gonsman Jr. of Osterburg; Michael J. Ling and companion Alice Truax of New Paris; William E. Ling and companion Tammy Barton of Everett; 3 great- grandchildren, Zachary Ling, Cole Ling, and Cameron Ling; and several nephews.
Ruth attended Rock Island School in Pavia. After school she helped in different people’s homes. After her marriage in Oct. of 1942, she was a housewife all her life, except for short periods at Chilcoates Restaurant and working for AW Smith Market in the fields. Ruth was a hard working farm girl and took great pride in her home. She enjoyed gardening and canning and grew nearly all her food. She was accomplished in crocheting and embroidery, making many beautiful pieces. She especially enjoyed cooking Sunday dinner for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren into her 90’s. She will be remembered for her homemade ham pot pie and cherry pie dessert. She will be greatly missed by all who called her Gram.
Friends and family will be received on Monday, Feb. 6, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the J. Edward Blackburn Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Charles Miller officiating at the J. Edward Blackburn Funeral Home.
Interment will be held at the Osterburg Community Cemetery.
