Dorothy E. (Bowser) Stasny, 95, of Bedford, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Donahoe Manor.
She was born on July 19, 1919, in Osterburg, the daughter of the late William E. and J. Bernice (Mock) Bowser.
On January 24, 1964, she married Joseph T. Stasny, who preceded her in death.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; sister, Ethel Knisely; brother, Robert Bowser; and nephew, Jeffrey Bowser.
She is survived by 4 nephews, William Knisely; Earl Bowser; George Knisely; Stephen Bowser; and a sister-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Bowser.
Dorothy graduated from Conemaugh Nursing School in Johnstown. She was a nurse in the Army Nurse Corps during WWII. She was involved in the second troop wave on D-Day at Normandy Beach and was in the Battle of the Bulge, European Theater, Northern France, and The Rhineland. She received an American Defense service medal and two Battle Stars. Dorothy and her husband, Joseph T., created the Stasny Memorial Scholarship at Mount Aloysius College, it is for students in high schools in Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Huntingdon, or Somerset counties majoring in healthcare that help students with financial needs.
Friends and family will be received at the Trinity Reform Church, Osterburg, Sunday, March 29, 2015 from 2 to 4 p.m. The funeral service will be held Monday, March 30, 2015 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Charlie Miller officiating, at the Trinity Reform Church.
Military rites will be accorded by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
Interment will be at the Bedford County Memorial Park.
