Dorothy R. Hughes
Dorothy R. Hughes, 87, was swept up into the arms of her precious Saviour on June 7, 2023, in Greenville, Ky., while visiting with her daughter.
Dorothy was born Feb. 3, 1936, in Beaverdale to the Rev. J. H. Chappell and Leona Ruth (Plummer), both of whom proceeded her in death.
She married Norman I. Hughes on Dec. 31, 1955, and he preceded her in death on June 2, 1974.
Surviving are three children: two daughters, Robin Weyandt (Richard) of Claysburg and Holly Burkett (Jack Jr.) of Kentucky, and one son, Timothy Hughes (Kimberly Riner), also of Kentucky.
She is survived by 19 grandchildren: Shannon Jones (Shaun), Jack Burkett III (Nicole), Summer Clawson (Brent), Trisha Cox (Kenneth), Kristi Hillegas (Brandon), Carl (Marty) Weyandt, Luke Hughes (Teia), Ashley Hughes, Sarah Hughes, Drew Hughes (Abigail), Beth Clevenger (Levi), Christen Martin (Steven), Joel Hughes (Ina), Tarissa, Alivia, Elise, Nate, Sage, and Kierra Hughes, all of whom she dearly loved and prayed for daily.
Dorothy is also survived by 30 great-grandchildren, who brought her so much joy: Austin, Jacob, Christina, Caleb (fiancé Leishka), Jennica, Wesley, Trenten, Novia-Bell, Noah, Ella, Evie-Kate, Brooklyn, Bowen, Bennett, Beckett, Carter, Reagan, Beatrice, Spurgeon, Addyson, Belle, Ashton, Colletta, Colter, Courage, Jedediah, Emerson, Ariela, Ava-Lynn, and one to be born; and one great-great-grandchild, Daluca.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Miller, and a brother, Donald Chappell.
Surviving are two brothers: Lloyd (Dana) Chappell and Dean Chappell, and two surviving sisters: Carol (Cloyd) Weyandt and Linda (Melvin) Weyandt, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy loved God and desired her family to do the same. She resided with her daughter Robin the last 12 years since her stroke in 2010 and spent these days reading God’s Word and praying for each member of her growing family. She would light up when any of them came to visit or facetime; especially the great granddaughters.
In her work for the Lord, Dorothy taught Sunday school and was the youth leader at the Community Bible Church for many years. She influenced many teenagers to go with God. She was a seamstress at Bali Bra, Johnstown for 20 years, and then retired from Hedstrom Corp. after 17 years of service.
She will be greatly missed by all. Her prayers, and her love and devotion to God and her family has been an inspiration to many. We rejoice that she is reunited with countless loved ones that have gone before and is now free from the pain and bonds of this life, resting and at peace in the arms of her Blessed Redeemer and Loving Lord, whom she had longed for for so long.
Dorothy attended Mt. Sinai Chapel God’s Missionary Church. Arrangements by J. Edward Blackburn Funeral Home, Alum Bank. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, June 15, at 2 p.m. at Mt.
