She was born on March 22, 1918, in Alum Bank, daughter of the late Roy A. and Midge (Walker) Mock.
In Aug. of 1941, she married Daniel Metzler in Winchester, Va., and after his discharge from the Navy, they moved in 1945 to Youngstown, N.Y., and built their home and had two children. Mr. Metzler passed away in 1995, ending a marriage of 54 years.

She is survived by sisters, Phyllis Jeanne Folk and Ferne Marcelle Shaffer both of Alum Bank; and many nieces and nephews.
After Doris graduated from the Pleasantville High School in 1935, she went to Lock Haven Teachers College to become a teacher and then she taught in the one room school house in the rural area of Alum Bank. In 1976, Daniel was retired and they started to spend their winters in Crescent, Florida. In 1982, they sold their home in NY and moved back to Alum Bank but continued spending winters in Florida.
Mrs. Metzler belonged to St. Bernard’s Church in Youngstown N.Y. and belonged to the homemakers club and was an assistant leader of the Girl Scouts, Brownies and Cub Scouts. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, and canning from their garden, and she especially enjoyed visits from her family in P.A.

At the age of 91, Mrs. Metzler traveled to New York (near Niagara Falls) to attend her friends 80th surprise birthday party at the Niagara Falls Country Club. She had not seen her friend in 14 years. Doris will be missed by all who knew her.
