Donald R. Smith, 82, formerly of Alum Bank and of Bedford passed away on May 29, 2016 at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.

He was born on July 18, 1933, in Bedford Township, son of the late Draper and Gladys (Amick) Smith.

On October 22, 1955 he married Shirley Miller Smith, who preceded him in death on January 7, 2012.

He is survived by daughters, Vicki Smith of Virginia; and Donna married to David Murphy, of Texas; grandchildren Sarah Murphy, and Patrick Murphy, married to Crystal, and great- grandchildren Kaden and Mason all of Georgia. Also survived by Sisters; Joanne Claycomb, Jean Foor and Helen Robinette.

He was preceded in death by brothers Carl, Harry, Ross and Cloy and sister Margaret.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and retired from McQuaide Trucking of Johnstown in 1998, after 29 years. Before that he had been a farmer, a truck driver and worked for PennDOT for a time. He was a big fan of Old westerns and 70’s TV sitcoms and police dramas.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing. There will be a graveside service at the interment of both Donald and Shirley at 11 a.m. on June 25, 2016 at the Bedford County Memorial Park.
