Donald E. Sheirer
New Paris
Donald E. Sheirer, 88, of New Paris, passed away February 11, 2016 at Donahoe Manor.
He was born on May 17, 1927, in Buffalo Mills, son of the late John Foster and Lillian (Ritchey) Sheirer.
On April 18, 1955, he married Shirley L. (Moore) Sheirer in Winchester, Va.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James, Ernest, Stanford, and William; sisters, Margaret Weaver, Geraldine Moore, and Irene Banner; and infant granddaughter Clarissa Dawn Sheirer.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; sons, Rodney S. and wife Michelle (McDonald) Sheirer of New Paris and Randall A. Sheirer of New Paris; two grandchildren, Zachery and Benjamin; and sister, Ora Jane Calhoun of Everett.
Donald was a graduate of the Schellsburg Napier High School in 1945. He served during the Korean War in the Army. He drove truck for Eastern, Wilson, and Interstate trucking companies; Donald and his brother, Stanford were a few of the first truck driving graduates in Cessna. He later worked for Bethlehem Steel where he retired. After retirement, he worked part time as a guard at Kennametal. He loved everything about the outdoors, was an avid hunter, enjoyed gardening and hunting for mushrooms. He always found something to tinker around with whether it be fixing something or making things. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to all and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Friends and family will be received Monday, Feb. 15, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Chestnut Ridge Independent Fellowship Church. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Daniel Oldham officiating at the Chestnut Ridge Independent Fellowship Church.
Military Rites will be accorded by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
Interment will be at the Bedford County Memorial Park.
