Chester “Chet” A. Smith, 74, of Lovely, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Bedford Colonial Courtyard, surrounded by his family.
He was born on August 28, 1941, in Bedford County, the son of the late Francis (Jones) and Willard Smith. He was raised by his grandmother, Marie Jones in the house he lived in for his entire life.
On June 25, 1960, he married Joann (Corle) Smith.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his grandmother.
Chester is survived by his loving wife of 55 years; children, Leslie Ann married to Larry Weyant and C. William (Bill) married to Lisa Anderson; along with his children he will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Angela Lynn married to Troy Harbaugh, Alana Hope Weyant and fiancé D’Von Dorsey, Brittany Paige Smith, and Billie Ann Smith. He also leaves behind great grandsons Seth James, Albert Harbaugh, and Isac William Blaine Harbaugh.
Chet was a 1960 graduate of Chestnut Ridge High School. He was of the Protestant faith. He was a farmer his whole life. Along with his farming, he was a milk truck driver, a truck driver for McQuaide, Ohio Fast Freight, and FiHoff. He also delivered newspapers for the Johnstown Tribune Democrat.
His passion in life was farming, watching the wildlife on the farm, and his family. He enjoyed visiting with everyone in the community. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
Friends and family will be received at the J. Edward Blackburn Funeral Home Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. with Pastor James Neatrour officiating, at the J. Edward Blackburn Funeral Home.
Interment will be at the Mount Union Cemetery, Lovely.
