Carol Ann Close, 76, loving wife, mother, fur grandmother and educator passed away peacefully on April 2, 2018 in King Township, Pennsylvania.  

Carol Ann attended Shade Central High School in Cairnbrook, PA and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  In 1963, Carol Ann joined the high school faculty at Claysburg-Kimmel High School as a mathematics teacher, where she taught for 33 years until her retirement.   While teaching at Claysburg, she met and married her husband of over 53 years, Dennis G. Close. Carol Ann cared deeply for her students not only teaching them subject matter, but also providing a safe and nurturing environment.  She was known to spend extra time and efforts with many of her students, for leading extracurricular groups such as Model United Nations, YMCA Youth and Government and Tri-Hi-Y, as Class Advisor, Advisor for the Prom and planned well known summer bus trips to Florida for students and parents.

After retirement, Carol Ann continued with her other passions.  She was a 46-year active member of The Order of the Eastern Star, Roaring Spring Chapter #121.  She held many positions within the organization and enjoyed driving her minivan with her friends to various local, regional and state Eastern Star events.  Carol Ann and Dennis enjoyed taking road trips together every year to Gatlinburg, TN visiting the Smoky Mountains and to Skyline Drive in Virginia.  They continued to enjoy day trips to local favorite spots in Harper’s Ferry, Hagerstown, and Cumberland.

Carol Ann is survived by her husband Dennis G. Close (Butch), her daughter Dr. Nicole C. Close (husband Chris Albrecht) of Kitty Hawk, NC and her beloved dog Einstein, along with fur grandchildren Loki, Thor and Ace.   

Former students, friends and family will be received at J. Edward Blackburn Funeral Home in Pleasantville, PA on Friday, April 6^th 6-8pm and Saturday, April 7^th from 10am-12pm.  An Eastern Star service will take place on Saturday morning and is open to all friends and family to join.  Please call the funeral home for additional details.
