Thomas Helsel Obituary

Thomas E. Helsel

Schellsburg

Thomas E. Helsel, 74, of Schellsburg, went to be with the Lord while surrounded by family on the morning of Feb. 5, 2019.

He was born Dec. 5, 1944, to Ella and James Helsel.

He was a quiet, soft-spoken man who enjoyed the simple things in life. He was always a hard-worker. His favorite job was working in the mines for 18 years. He could fix anything and would give anything for someone in need. He loved Jesus, as well as his wife and his family. He was a member of the Crossroads Bible Church. He was a racing fan who enjoyed attending dirt track races at Thunder Valley and Bedford speedways with family. He also cheered on Mark Martin while he watched NASCAR races. He loved doing carpentry work and building anything with his hands. He had quite the green thumb and enjoyed planting flowers. He found pleasure in watching the birds and other wildlife that would come to visit around the house. He enjoyed listening to Neil Diamond as well as watching old shows like Gunsmoke.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene “Moxie” Helsel; sister-in-law, Tessie “Sally” Helsel; nephew, Michael Helsel; and a great-niece, Tina Helsel; and grandson, Gary Pfahler Jr.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Helsel; a brother, John Norman (Pete) and his wife, Dolores; “sister” Laura May Beltowski; daughters, Donna Helsel, Jeanne Kephart and Lisa Mcdannell; sons-in-law, Rick Mcdannell and Ken Kephart; a niece, Karen Helsel; a nephew, Steven Helsel and his wife, Mary Kay; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

At the request of the deceased, funeral services will not be held. Private interment service to be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
