Alston Grant “Sonny” Whitcomb Jr.

Alston Grant “Sonny” Whitcomb Jr., 81, of Bedford, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019 at home.

He was born on December 23, 1937, in St. Clairsville; son of the late Alston Sr. and Martha (Weyant) Whitcomb.

On July 7, 1961, he married Doris (Swindell) Whitcomb, who preceded him in death in 1998.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; brother, William; and sister, Betty.

He is survivied by children, Denny and wife Linda Whitcomb of Bedford; Michael and wife Kerry Whitcomb of Bedford; Tanya and husband Scott Koontz of Pittsburgh; Melissa and husband Bill Williams of Somerset; nine grandchildren, Denny, Kristi, Karlee, Brody, Zachery, Kaitlyn, Kody, Kayla, and Jade; three great-grandchildren, Gunner, Tuck, and Luke; and sister, Helen “Dot” Coppersmith of Claysburg.

Sonny served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Friends and family will be received on Sunday, June 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the J. Edward Blackburn Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Monday, June 17 at 11 a.m. at the Osterburg Reformed Cemetery.

Military Rites accorded by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
