E. LaVerne (Brumbaugh) Peters
E. LaVerne (Brumbaugh) Peters, at the age of 91 went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Arbutus Park Manor, Johnstown Pa. after a short illness.
Born in Johnstown she was the daughter of the late John Dewey and Eva (Kring) Brumbaugh. She is preceded in death by all five of her siblings; Brothers: Dewey and Jean (Diehl) Brumbaugh, Alvin Brumbaugh, Jacob and Dorothy (Wingard) Brumbaugh and Sisters: LaVina and Dean Layton, Elizabeth and Anthony Pannone.
Preceded in death by her husband Raymond James Peters in 2020 after 67 years of marriage.
She is survived by 4 children, Deborah Duarte (Ed) of Bensalem, Pa, Daniel Peters of Johnstown, Pa, Sandra Shetler of Hanahan, SC, Mark Peters (Patti) of Hanahan, SC.
3 grandchildren Adam Duarte (Deanna) of Newtown, Pa, James Peters (Julie) of Houston, TX, Matthew Peters of Hanahan, SC
2 great grandchildren Nathaniel and Emily Duarte of Newtown, Pa
She is also survived by her sister-in-law Anna (nee Rowland) Brumbaugh, 7 nephews, and 11 nieces.
She was a member of the Pleasantville United Methodist Church. She was a certified United Methodist Lay speaker. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Penn Knoll Nursing Home in Bedford, PA and volunteered at the Bedford County Prison in a literacy program. She taught Sunday school at the New Paris UMC and traveled with her husband on working mission trips to Kentucky.
She resided in New Paris, Pa for 42 years and then moved into Arbutus Park Manor to be near her husband in 2019.
A Celebration Of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of LaVerne to Arbutus Park Manor or Windber Hospice.
